Kumar is an energy economics professional with nearly two decades of experience in the energy industry. He has held numerous leadership and individual contributor roles in market planning, pricing and structuring, emissions trading, corporate strategy, financial planning for independent energy companies and large US regulated utilities.  His body of work includes valuation of concluded buy and sell side transactions for over 15,000 MW in major merchant wholesale and integrated utility markets in the US and the Caribbean; and various global strategic initiatives for participants in Asian markets. He has submitted live testimony to the US Bankruptcy courts in the financial reorganization proceedings of a major merchant energy company; and to the US Department of Justice in the Hart-Scott-Rodino merger approval proceedings of leading merchant energy companies. He has a keen interest and opinion on issues pertaining to the current debate around US energy policy, wholesale electricity markets, fuels and alternate energy, greenhouse gas policy, utility restructuring and the related regulatory and competitive issues.

Jai is a valuation expert with nearly two decades experience in merchant energy, banking and manufacturing firms. He has led the strategic assessment of generation assets in various North American power markets and provided commercial analysis for diverse portfolios of coal, gas, hydro and co-generation power plants. He is skilled at developing sophisticated models to guide business decisions such as optimizing auction revenue, valuing embedded options and transact structured products. He is deeply interested in finance, technology, regulations and the investment opportunities that arise from the interaction of trends in these areas. Jai holds the Chartered Financial Analyst ®designation, a Masters in International Management from Thunderbird, and an MBA from IIM-Ahmedabad.
